The brief for this conductor’s podium was to make it light and portable. To this end each of the four parts which make up the assembled podium are of ‘torsion box’ construction – two thin skins (in this case oak veneered ply) are separated by an internal latticework, and this sandwich is given a solid oak lipping all round for extra strength and durability. This gives a very light but immensely stiff structure.
An adjustable swivel foot at each corner allows for compensation for the uneven floors often found at performance venues.
A carpet tile inset in the top deadens the sound of an excited conductor’s dancing. The podium can be assembled, and broken down again, without the use of tools.
